Imagine This…

It’s the day of your baby’s birth. You are so excited, you can barely stand it. You head to the hospital, positively bursting with joy, but they tell you that you haven’t made any real progress.

“No worries,” they tell you. “We’ll just give you something to get you going.” That wasn’t really part of your plan, but you’re feeling disheartened and aren’t really sure how to tell them you’d rather not.

Several hours later, you’re in unbearable pain. You’re not sure you can cope for much longer.

Fast forward… Your baby is finally in your arms, but the journey to get here was brutal. You’re not sure you’d do that again. And you feel like nobody listened to you or cared about what you wanted.

But hey, at least you have a healthy baby, right?

NEWS FLASH: Birth does NOT have to be awful.

A healthy baby is NOT all that matters!

Your Experience Matters

Your needs, wants and desires matter. Your opinions matter. Your mental and phsyical well-being matter.

You are the star of this show and you deserve to be treated with respect.

Birthing Classes to Prepare You for the Birth of Your Dreams

No birthing class can guarantee a specific outcome. There are too many factors at play in birth. Your body and hormones. Your baby’s position. Hospital policy and the nurses on shift. The position of the stars (just kidding). And this may surprise you, but one of the biggest factors is your provider. What is their attitude? How much have they slept recently? Are they carrying unresolved trauma? Are they about to go on vacation? Is it almost dinner time, or a major holiday? Do they have unconscious biases?

With all of those elements out of your hands, what is the purpose of taking birthing classes? Parents have reported that childbirth education gave them:

  • increased confidence about labor and parenting
  • better rates of success in chest/breastfeeding
  • enhanced communication between birthers and their providers
  • a reduction in the use of interventions during labor
  • and most importantly, increased satisfaction with their birth experience

You have a right to education that informs, empowers and prepares you for the experience you want. A childbirth class will increase your chances of accomplishing your goals and help you feel how you desire during one of the most important events of your life.

Jubilation. Connection. Loved. Supported. Autonomous.

How do you want to feel during your labor? With a birthing class from The Birth Nerd, it’s totally possible.

Labor and Parenting Preparation

At The Birth Nerd, I believe the best birthing classes are focused on preparation. All my offerings are designed to prepare you for labor and parenting, not simply firehose you with information.

I offer four different childbirth ed packages as well as mini workshops. And my favorite part? All of my birthing classes are available as private, in-home appointments, all virtual classes or hybrid options. Browse my available packages that are designed to help you prepare for the big day and beyond.

Birthing Class Packages

Starter Equipment Package

The Starter Equipment package is designed like most traditional birthing classes. It includes a six-week series from one of two methods.

Evidence Based Birth®

I’m an Evidence Based Birth® Instructor. The Evidence Based Birth® Childbirth Class gives you the flexibility of learning online, but also the support and encouragement from an instructor. This six-week birthing class series covers birth statistics, accessing evidence-based care, advocacy, what to expect during labor and comfort measures. This series can be taught in a private or group setting.

Birthing From Within

I’m a Trained Birthing From Within Childbirth Educator. The Birthing From Within series is a holistic childbirth and parenting preparation course that treats birth as a rite of passage. Each birthing class includes a mindfulness-based pain-coping practice as well as learning modules that are relevant to the participants. This series can be taught in a private or group setting.

Finnley is an amazing educator. She has a huge knowledge of pregnancy and birth, and her passion for the field shows through in her work. She always goes above and beyond for her clients, and that is why she has a high rate of repeat clients. You will not find a better person to guide you through your pregnancy and birth journey than Finnley.

Carly C.

Finnley was my doula for the birth of both of my children. Her birth knowledge and hands on approach helped me through a very difficult and long labor. Finnley was patient, professional, knowledgeable, and all of the hospital staff were highly impressed with her as a professional.

Janna K.

There were many doubts and worries I had about my birth experience, but after speaking with Finnley she really put my mind at ease about having a hospital birth. She really wanted to get to know me and what kind of birth I was looking for. All of my questions were answered very thoroughly and I definitely felt more confident about the whole situation after speaking with her.

FAQ

Want to know more about my approach? These are some of the most frequently asked questions I receive.

Where do you teach classes?

Simple answer: Usually, I’ll come to you.

Longer answer: it’s hard enough trying to coordinate two or three people’s schedules. Imagine trying to get six to ten pregnant people or couples to show up at the same time every week for six to twelve weeks.

All of my classe are either in your own home as private sessions, in a hybrid format with one or two in-person classes with the remainder virtual, or all virtual.

The biggest thing holding people back from booking childbirth education classes is a lack of time. I decided to eliminate this barrier by coming to you.

Which classes would be best for me?

This is entirely dependent on your life circumstances and your birth and parenting goals. Do you want a well-rounded education that covers pregnancy and postpartum topics? Or do you just want to focus on labor prep because you’re short on time? Maybe this isn’t your first time and you just want a refresher.

All of my clients start their journey with a consultation with me, the Class Master! Book a consult today if you want to discuss your options and pick the right birthing class for you.

What birthing classes do you offer?

I offer four different childbirth ed packages as well as mini workshops. I utilize my decade+ experience to teach a unique set of classes designed for pregnant and postpartum people. From pain coping to nursery design, if you have questions about the childbearing and childrearing phases of life, I’ve got answers!

How much do childbirth classes cost?

The cost will vary depending on the offering. I offer four different childbirth ed packages. Both six-week series run $350. My labor prep heavy course is $475. If you’re a true birth nerd and want the most expansive experience, you can get 12 weeks of childbirth education and preparation for $1200. A refresher course is $200 if you’ve given birth and taken a class before.

Do you teach in-person or virtually?

Both! I offer in-person birthing classes in the comfort of your own home as well as online childbirth education. Private classes outside of my service area (the 435 loop) will have a small mileage fee in addition to the cost of the class. A few of my offerings are a hybrid option: we’ll meet at a conveniently located spot for a session or two and the remainder will be virtual classes.

In what areas do you offer childbirth education?

I cover the entire Kansas City metro–and beyond! From Lee’s Summit, Liberty, Parkville, and Leavenworth to Independence, Olathe, Lenexa, Overland Park and Grandview. If you’re outside my service area (the 435 loop), I charge a mileage fee for in-person classes. But virtual options are always available!

Let's Chat!

In tabletop gaming, such as Dungeons and Dragons, the person running the game is called a Game or Dungeon Master. The Dungeon Master's job is to walk their party through the world, setting up the parameters for the adventure. The DM helps players design their characters, but isn't the arbiter of anyone's decisions. I absolutely love being the DM.

In childbirth education, I like to think of myself as a Class Master. I will help you design a curriculum that fits your needs and interests. I'll be a guide on your adventure, but won't tell you what to do. And most importantly, I'll celebrate your successes right alongside you.

Schedule a coffee date consultation with the Class Master today and let's geek out!
